FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Two people were pulled from the Dry Creek Canal in Fresno during a water rescue on Tuesday in Fresno.

Police and fire responded to the report of someone trapped in the canal near Roosevelt and Echo at 11:45 a.m.

Rescuers located a victim hanging onto a tree branch and quickly secured the person so they would not be swept away.

The victim began to lose consciousness, and crews were able to pull them from the canal.

Crews later found a second person in the canal near Franklin and Broadway, also holding onto a branch and losing consciousness.

The second person was described as being affected by cold water and appeared to be intoxicated.

They say he went into the canal to help the first person but got separated.

Both people were rescued and taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

Their conditions were not immediately available.

Officials urged the community to stay out of cold water, warning that while it may look refreshing in hot weather, the water is moving fast and can be difficult to escape.

FRESNO, Calif.
