We’re long used to seeing waves of disenchanted Californian businesses pull up stakes<\/a> and migrate over to Texas. So it’s only fair for the Lone Star State to send something back California’s way. Well, almost.<\/p>\n

Buc-ee’s is set to open Arizona’s first Buc-ee’s in Goodyear on June 22<\/a>, a suburb west of Phoenix. Why does that matter to California? Because the new Arizona spot in Goodyear is the westernmost outpost to date and will be less than two hours away from Blythe, California, along the state line.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could not have picked a better location for our first store in the Grand Canyon state,” said Stan Beard of\u00a0Buc-ee\u2019s in a statement. “Perfectly placed for our road-trippers headed out to California or coming in for the destination-rich Phoenix area, Goodyear will be the place to stop.”<\/p>\n

So it’s only a matter of time before\u00a0Bucky the Beaver and his army of beaver-themed paraphernalia breach the California defense lines and forever change the state. Like the ending of Field of Dreams, soon a long stream of cars will stretch from Goodyear to Blythe and all the way into the heart of California, with Beaver Nuggets magically<\/a> lighting the way.<\/p>\n

But before any of that happens, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 22 at 8 a.m attended by City Manager Bryan Langley, Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo and other local dignitaries. Buc-ee\u2019s founder Arch \u201cBeaver\u201d Aplin III is also expected to make an appearance, and someone will surely be dressed as the Bucky the Beaver mascot. But probably not Arch.<\/p>\n

Arizonans have naturally been excited about this for a long time. “Can’t wait to go there when the crowds die down. In 2 years,” wrote\u00a0one person on Reddit<\/a>. Along those lines, the City of Goodyear is telling residents<\/a> to “plan for heavy, slow-moving traffic in the area and allow for extra travel time.”<\/p>\n

Over the years, Tesla,\u00a0Chevron<\/a>, Hewlett-Packard, and soon, fittingly, Public Storage<\/a>, have been moving their headquarters to Texas, so tossing California a big gas station two hours away seems like a fair trade.<\/p>\n

Still, we shouldn’t be too excited about the potential California breach. The coastal state tends to change people, so as southern Californians make their way to Arizona for\u00a0Buc-ee’s, it may just end up changing the beaver-themed travel center from within.
