(KABC) &#8212; A federal search warrant was served Wednesday morning at the <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/live-updates\/garden-grove-chemical-tank-emergency-leaking-toxic-chemicals-orange-county-will-spill-explode-officials-say\/19152918\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garden Grove aerospace facility<\/a> where a compromised tank carrying a toxic chemical forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents, Eyewitness News has learned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">It&#8217;s part of an investigation looking into possible violations at the plant that could have played a role in the incident at the GKN Aerospace facility last month.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Search warrant being served at Garden Grove chemical plant\" class=\"hsDdd NDJZt sJeUN IJwXl vBqtr KrDt itslR zFTjo hakZw HlUVI \" data-testid=\"prism-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/19269956_061026-kabc-gg-toxic-leak.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A tank carrying 6,500 gallons of the highly toxic chemical methyl methacrylate (MMA) became unstable, causing the tank to heat up uncontrollably. For a few days, officials said the tank would either explode or spill out, and either outcome was inevitable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Eventually, the tank cracked, allowing the pressure to release and eliminating the threat of a BLEVE, which stands for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The investigation into what caused the material in the tank to overheat is ongoing.
