The Fresno Police Department will launch a summer crime suppression operation beginning Thursday aimed at preventing violent crime, reducing traffic-related offenses, and improving safety for children and teens, officials announced.<\/p>\n

The department said officers will increase enforcement of the city\u2019s juvenile curfew ordinance, which prohibits minors from being in public spaces between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Violations of Fresno Municipal Code 9-2508<\/a> could result in officers contacting parents or guardians if minors are found out during curfew hours.<\/p>\n

Police said the operation is intended to help prevent youth from becoming victims of crime or making decisions that could have long-term consequences.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis ordinance is an important tool to help keep minors safe during late-night hours and helps prevent children and teens from finding themselves in unsafe situations,\u201d the department said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Officials urged parents and guardians to speak with their children about curfew rules and safe decision-making during the summer months.<\/p>\n

The department also pointed families toward youth programming and activities available through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fresno County.<\/a><\/p>\n
