Forecasters urged residents to prepare for moderate to major heat risk. Elevated temperatures increase the risk of heat stress and heat-related illness for both people and animals.

Forecasters recommended staying hydrated, limiting time in direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., and staying in a cool place during the hottest part of the day.

                Darrell Smith

                    The Sacramento Bee

Darrell Smith is a local reporter for The Sacramento Bee.
