Law enforcement investigated allegations that Phil Mickelson was inappropriate with a woman<\/a> at a Rancho Santa Fe golf club earlier this year, the San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> told The California Post on Thursday.<\/p>\n

In a statement, an SDCSO spokesperson said authorities have \u201cmade attempts to locate any evidence to support the potential allegation of a sexual assault\u201d involving Mickelson and a female employee at The Farms Golf Club.<\/p>\n

However, the rep added they had not received any official reports of a sexual assault incident at the club and \u201cat this time, we have not located any evidence to show an assault has occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sheriff\u2019s Office would absolutely investigate further if provided additional evidence or information,\u201d the SDCSO spokesperson said. \u201cWe encourage anyone with information regarding an incident such as this to reach out to the Sheriff\u2019s Office.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mickelson allegedly \u201cmade nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact\u201d with the woman inside The Farms\u2019 clubhouse in the spring, according to a bombshell report from Golf Digest<\/a> on Thursday, and following a probe into the matter from the employee\u2019s supervisors, the three-time Masters champion was booted from the club.<\/p>\n

Mickelson, a San Diego native, had deep ties to the establishment \u2014 Golf Digest reported he\u2019s played there often over the years and even used it to practice for major championships.<\/p>\n

Mickelson has not commented on the alleged incident, though Tom Clare, a defamation attorney representing the golfer, said in a statement to Golf Digest there\u2019s been \u201ca great deal of misinformation circulating\u201d around the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Phil\u2019s full attention is devoted to a private family health matter,\u201d Clare said, \u201che has retained defamation counsel and is determined to hold accountable any publication or individual trafficking in speculation or false rumors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mickelson, who\u2019s been with his wife Amy for 30 years, has been\u00a0away from the professional golf\u00a0<\/a>since February, when he announced he needed to step away to\u00a0tend to a family matter<\/a>.<\/p>\n
