{"id":358369,"date":"2026-06-12T21:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T21:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/358369\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T21:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T21:04:09","slug":"man-found-buried-in-oakland-homeless-camp-was-homicide-victim-east-bay-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/358369\/","title":{"rendered":"Man found buried in Oakland homeless camp was homicide victim \u2013 East Bay Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OAKLAND \u2014 A man whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/06\/10\/body-found-buried-at-oakland-homeless-camp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">body was found in a grave at a West Oakland homeless camp<\/a> this week died from severe head trauma and his death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>His identity still has not been confirmed, authorities said. Until he is positively identified, police are not able to say where he lived.<\/p>\n<p>His partially decomposed remains were found about 2 p.m. Tuesday in a grave at a homeless camp in the 500 block of 34th Street, an area below where Highway 24 and Interstate 580 meet.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy determined he died from severe head trauma, but police did not say how they believe it was inflicted.<\/p>\n<p>Police believe he had been in the grave at least two months but don\u2019t know if he was killed at the camp or brought there from another location and buried.<\/p>\n<p>A motive has not been determined and no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n<p>The killing is the 23rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 36 homicides in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information may contact homicide investigators at 510-238-3821 or call a tip line at 510-238-7950.
