Eklund took a big step forward in his development last season. But for the Sharks owner, he knows there\u2019s an even higher level the winger can get to.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking to fans outside <a href=\"https:\/\/sharkshockeydigest.com\/san-jose-sharks-sap-center-san-jose-city-council-vote-approval\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SAP Center<\/a>, Plattner said Eklund is the oldest of the core.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung Eklund is the oldest one at 22,\u201d Plattner said. \u201cI believe that is a very good start, and the experts say now that San Jose has the best potential team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement. The Sharks winger said he hadn\u2019t seen Plattner\u2019s comments about him and the other top young players on the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing from the owner, it\u2019s big,\u201d Eklund said. \u201cWe all want to turn things around here. We\u2019ve been saying it for a long time. He wants that too. He wants to see us succeed, and that means a lot that we were a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eklund signed a three-year $16.8 million <a href=\"https:\/\/sharkshockeydigest.com\/san-jose-sharks-eklund-contract-extension-three-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contract extension<\/a> over the summer, a move that would have required Plattner\u2019s approval, given his role in signing the checks. Eklund knows that he must turn the Sharks\u2019 commitment into performance on the ice. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m gonna try. I\u2019ve got expectations for myself too. It goes both ways,\u201d Eklund said. \u201cI\u2019m just trying to be here and get better every day. It\u2019s an honor that he thinks that of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement.
