By Ryan Foley, Christian Post Reporter Monday, June 15, 2026"GiantsGiants pitcher Landen Roupp speaks to reporters following San Francisco’s 5-1 loss against the Chicago Cubs at Oracle Park on June 12, 2026. A reporter was critical of Roupp for speaking about the Bible in June, which some LGBT activists recognize as so-called pride month to promote homosexuality and transsexuality. | YouTube/NBC Sports Bay Area & California

A San Francisco Giants player displayed a Bible passage describing God’s covenant with humanity and the rainbow’s actual meaning on his baseball cap during the team’s annual LGBT pride night. Other players on the team also protested the promotion of LGBT ideology.

Speaking to reporters after the Giants’ game against the Chicago Cubs, pitcher Landen Roupp acknowledged that he wrote a reference to Genesis 9:12-16 on his cap during the team’s pride night on Friday.

As part of LGBT pride night, most Giants players wore caps featuring the team’s logo in rainbow colors associated with the LGBT movement. Roupp’s cap included a reference to Genesis 9:12-16, a passage describing God’s covenant with humanity following the flood.

Roupp said the passage speaks about “God’s covenant” and “a promise that He makes to us” that demonstrates “His faithfulness and His mercy.”

Genesis 9:12-16 states: “And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.'”

Roupp said the verses are ones “I believe in,” adding, “I stand firm in that.”

He also expressed gratitude that “we live in a country where … we have the freedom to believe what we want.”

When asked “why was it important to make that known tonight,” Roupp pointed to the Bible verse and the teaching that “the rainbow is a symbol of God’s covenant … to us.” He stressed that “there’s no hate at all,” citing the scripture passage as reflective of “what I stand for and what I stand in.”

Roupp also responded to a question asking about the potential for members of the LGBT community to see the reference to the Bible verse as “hateful” and “derogatory” by stating that he would “push them to read the Bible.”

Proclaiming that “God has blessed me in so many ways,” Roupp expressed confidence that “I don’t think I’d be here right now if it wasn’t for Him.” He concluded by reiterating his gratitude to God for putting him in “this situation” and giving him the opportunity to “share His Kingdom.”

Roupp’s Christian faith is featured prominently on his social media, with the biography on his Instagram profile including a reference to Philippians 4:13. The Bible verse says “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Christian sports commentator Jon Root, who watched Friday’s game, noted in a social media post Saturday that “At least 4 San Francisco Giants players protested Pride Night on Friday vs. Chicago.” In addition to Roupp, reliever JT Brubaker also included a reference to a Bible passage on his cap. Brubaker’s hat cited Genesis 9:13-15, a slightly shorter version of the verse written on Roupp’s hat.

Meanwhile, reliever Sam Hentges declined to wear the hat altogether. Root added that reliever Ryan Walker “wrote a message on the side of his Pride hat” that “was unreadable on the broadcast” and could not determine “if outspoken Christian Robbie Ray protested as well.”
