Established under the Public Safety Officer\u00a0Medal\u00a0of\u00a0Valor\u00a0Act\u00a0of\u00a02003, the award recognizes public safety\u00a0officers who display extraordinary\u00a0valor\u00a0above and beyond the call\u00a0of\u00a0duty. Recipients are selected through a nomination and review process led by the California Department\u00a0of\u00a0Justice and the\u00a0Medal\u00a0of\u00a0Valor\u00a0Review Board.<\/p>\n

Sergeant George Imirian, Fresno Police Department<\/p>\n
On October 26, 2024, Sergeant Imirian responded to reports\u00a0of\u00a0gunfire and a homicide scene. When the armed suspect returned and opened fire on his patrol vehicle, striking him multiple times, Sergeant Imirian pursued and engaged the suspect despite his injuries.
