A long-vacant service station in Downtown Long Beach <\/a>is slated to make way for new housing, according to an application recently filed by New Century Development, LP.<\/p>\n

The proposed project, which would rise from a corner lot at 402 Atlantic Avenue, calls for the construction of a seven-story podium-type building featuring 82 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above 82 non-required parking stalls.<\/p>\n

A portion of the new apartments would be set aside for rent as affordable housing, making the project eligible for density bonus incentives permitting relief from certain zoning rules.<\/p>\n

Studio T-Square<\/a> is designing the apartment complex, according to the application. Renderings portray a contemporary podium-type building clad in siding and painted stucco, with amentiy decks located on the third and seventh floors.<\/p>\n

The project site is located three blocks east of the City Place shopping center, where developer JPI recently commenced work on a 272-unit mixed-use apartment complex<\/a>, and three blocks to the west of an affordable housing complex from Mercy Housing California now rising at 300 Alamitos Avenue.<\/a><\/p>\n
