{"id":365366,"date":"2026-06-18T06:54:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T06:54:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/365366\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T06:54:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T06:54:28","slug":"city-provides-update-on-years-long-kuhio-beach-park-bathroom-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/365366\/","title":{"rendered":"City provides update on years-long Kuhio Beach Park bathroom closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; The city said it is nearing a resolution for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2026\/04\/29\/years-long-closure-waikiki-bathroom-disappointing-many-some-demand-answers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2026\/04\/29\/years-long-closure-waikiki-bathroom-disappointing-many-some-demand-answers\/\">a bathroom that\u2019s been closed in Waikiki for years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For the past four years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2025\/03\/04\/bathroom-issues-waikiki-beach-cause-frustration-visitors-lifeguards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2025\/03\/04\/bathroom-issues-waikiki-beach-cause-frustration-visitors-lifeguards\/\">city has blamed the closure of the Kuhio Beach Park bathroom<\/a> on vandals who flushed clothes down the toilets, as well as mechanical and electrical issues with a pump, requiring more than $40,000 for repairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/197ZgV1bju\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/197ZgV1bju\/\">On Tuesday, in a post to the city\u2019s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Facebook<\/a>, said it has been negotiating with the pump manufacturer and contracted installer over warranty maintenance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials said the warranty is now being honored and additional maintenance is moving forward, with hopes the bathroom will reopen this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">DPR cautioned that previous malfunctions and damage could delay reopening.
