The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> have traded catcher Tyler Heineman<\/a> to the Los Angeles Angels<\/a> for cash considerations, the team announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Heineman, 34, slashed .154\/.205\/.205 with one home run and six RBI in 31 games for the Blue Jays this season.<\/p>\n

The 5-foot-10 catcher played parts of three seasons in Toronto, acting primarily as the backup catcher to Alejandro Kirk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The move comes after Kirk returned from the injured list and the team opting to keep rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela<\/a>, who is hitting .254 with seven home runs with 18 RBI in 47 games this season.<\/p>\n

Drafted in the eighth round by the Houston Astros<\/a> in 2012, Heineman has a career .226 batting average with five home runs and 41 RBI split between the Miami Marlins<\/a>, San Francisco Giants<\/a>, Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>, and Boston Red Sox<\/a>.<\/p>\n
