OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. \u2013 A 59-year-old Sterling Heights man was arrested after police responded to a report of a possible drunk driver in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred on Wednesday (June 10) when officers were dispatched to the parking lot at 288 John R Road at about 9:19 p.m. after receiving a report of a man driving who had allegedly been drinking heavily.<\/p>\n
Police said they located a vehicle matching the suspect\u2019s description, which was driving slowly through the parking lot. <\/p>\n
When officers spoke with the driver, they said they observed signs of possible intoxication, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol.<\/p>\n
A search of the vehicle\u2019s front passenger area found 11 empty vodka bottles and one partially full bottle, according to police.<\/p>\n
Police said the driver was unable to complete most sobriety evaluations because of his level of intoxication and refused to take a preliminary breath test. <\/p>\n
Officials said he was then arrested.<\/p>\n
After being taken into custody, police said the man told them there was a firearm inside the vehicle. <\/p>\n
Police said they located a loaded handgun in the center console. <\/p>\n
Officials said the man had a valid Concealed Pistol License.<\/p>\n
Because of the man\u2019s level of intoxication, police said an ambulance was called, and he was transported to Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak for medical treatment.<\/p>\n
Police said the man was read his chemical test rights and agreed to a blood draw, which was completed by medical personnel at the hospital.<\/p>\n
The driver was later released to the hospital pending the issuance of a warrant. <\/p>\n
Further details, including potential charges, were not immediately available.<\/p>\n
