Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n<p>Each date will start from a different location along the Kings River.<\/p>\n<p>Nov. 18, Avocado Side Channel near Avocado Lake, 3625 N. Piedra Rd. Piedra<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 2, Wildwood near Trout Lake<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 3, Greenbelt on Piedra Road near Green Belt park<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"774\" height=\"616\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Screen-Shot-2025-11-03-at-3.33.45-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9129\" style=\"width:525px;height:auto\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Detailed directions will be sent to volunteers upon registering for a date. Equipment and lunch will be provided for volunteers each day.<\/p>\n<p>The survey provides critical insight into the balance, biodiversity and health of the fish in the lower Kings River and ensures the ecosystem is thriving.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biologists and volunteers will use <a href=\"https:\/\/sjvwater.org\/video-shocking-fish-for-science\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">electrofishing equipment<\/a>, which shocks but does not harm the fish, to collect and examine fish, collecting data such as size, density, the fish\u2019s condition and the variety of fish in the river.<\/p>\n<p>SJV Water went with volunteers three years ago and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/87o_OyFf7_c?si=Z6UUYk_lCD0ERoaw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">produced a video<\/a> on how it all works.<\/p>\n<p>The Kings River is home to rainbow trout,\u00a0 bass, catfish and carp.<\/p>\n<p>The program is in collaboration with Kings River Conservation District, Kings River Water Association and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), and aims to improve and enhance the lower Kings River and its fish habitat.<\/p>\n<p>The program offers other educational events such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/sjvwater.org\/volunteers-learn-to-foster-trout-eggs-in-anticipation-of-releasing-fry-into-the-kings-river\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trout release<\/a>, another popular annual event and a monthly river cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>Interested persons are encouraged to contact Lori Werner, an environmental resource analyst for the program at 559-237-5567 #122 or <a href=\"https:\/\/sjvwater.org\/volunteers-needed-for-annual-check-in-on-kings-river-fish\/mailto:lwerner@krcd.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lwerner@krcd.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republication or broadcast of SJV Water content is allowed with our reporter\u2019s byline, SJV Water and the following tagline:<br \/>SJV Water is an independent, nonprofit news site covering water in the San Joaquin Valley, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sjvwater.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.sjvwater.org<\/a>.
