KCRA 3\u2019S ERIN HEFT IS IN RANCHO CORDOVA, WHERE ONE CONGRESSMAN JOINED VOLUNTEERS TO DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO FAMILIES IN NEED. YES. GOOD MORNING. AND THE LINES OUT HERE ARE JUST ASTONISHING. WE DO THESE TYPES OF STORIES AT THIS TIME OF YEAR EVERY YEAR. BUT JUST THE CAPACITY IS IT FEELS LIKE IT. THRESHOLD. NOW I WANT TO SHOW YOU INSIDE. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THOSE. DISTRIBUTION ROOMS. AND JUST TO PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE, TOMORROW TIES THE RECORD FOR THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. THIS IS THE RANCHO CORDOVA FOOD LOCKER. AND I\u2019M JOINED BY REPRESENTATIVE AMI BERA. THERE\u2019S 270,000 INDIVIDUALS IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY THAT DEPEND ON SNAP BENEFITS. 90,000 OF THOSE ARE KIDS. LET\u2019S END THIS. LET\u2019S GET THOSE BENEFITS OUT THERE. AND AGAIN, THAT WOULD BE MY MESSAGE TO SPEAKER JOHNSON IS CALL US BACK. THIS HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH. LET\u2019S ADDRESS HEALTH CARE COSTS. LET\u2019S ADDRESS THE FOOD INSECURITY. LET\u2019S ACTUALLY DO WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ELECT US TO DO. AND YOU\u2019RE ONE OF OUR ARTERIES TO WASHINGTON, D.C. IF YOU WERE TO PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE FOR A PERSON LIKE MYSELF OR A NEIGHBOR OF YOURS AS TO WHAT\u2019S HAPPENING THERE AND WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN FOR THIS TO END, WHAT WOULD YOU WHAT WOULD YOU TELL US? I MEAN, WHAT I WOULD SAY IS PRESIDENT TRUMP IS THE ONE PERSON WHO CONTROLS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. IF HE PICKS UP THE PHONE AND CALLS MIKE JOHNSON, THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, AND SAYS, HEY, CUT A DEAL, WE\u2019LL CUT A DEAL. LOOK, FAMILIES ARE STRUGGLING RIGHT NOW. WE\u2019RE COMING UP ON THE HOLIDAYS. THAT\u2019S OUR CORE JOB IS TO TAKE CARE OF THESE AMERICAN FAMILIES THAT ARE STRUGGLING. SO AGAIN, CALL US BACK. I\u2019M READY TO VOTE TO OPEN THE GOVERNMENT UP. AND LET\u2019S ADDRESS HEALTH CARE COSTS AND DO ALL OF THAT. BUT WE\u2019VE GOT TO COME TOGETHER AS AMERICANS. I WANT TO JUST LAST QUESTION FROM ME IS THAT YOU AND I SPOKE ON DAY FIVE OF THE SHUTDOWN. YOU REMARKED ON THE ODDITY OF YOU NOT BEING IN WASHINGTON, D.C., TO HELP IN THIS EFFORT. I MEAN, AND NOW WE ARE 30 DAYS ALMOST AFTER THAT. YEAH. I MEAN, I\u2019VE NEVER BEEN IN A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN WHERE WE WEREN\u2019T IN WASHINGTON, D.C., VOTING TO OPEN PARTS OF THE GOVERNMENT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I WAS THERE IN THAT 35 DAY SHUTDOWN. BUT WE WERE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. EVERY DAY. I WENT BACK THERE LAST WEEK TO DO SOME OF THE WORK THAT I HAVE TO DO ANYWAYS, BECAUSE THE WORLD CONTINUES. BUT FAMILIES ARE STRUGGLING NOW. THIS IS ACTUALLY VERY REAL TO SO MANY AMERICAN FAMILIES, RED STATES, BLUE STATES, REPUBLICAN DISTRICTS, DEMOCRATIC DISTRICTS. LET\u2019S ACTUALLY COME TOGETHER NOW AND OPEN THE GOVERNMENT.
