A noteworthy detail has emerged from a recent NHL trade.

First, let’s revisit today’s trade.

The San Jose Sharks acquired Gasseau and a draft pick from the Boston Bruins.

In return, Boston received two selections.

One of them was a fifth-round pick that originally belonged to Montreal.

The origin of that pick is what makes this story particularly interesting. A pick that comes from what was, in a way, a historic trade for the Montreal Canadiens.

The pick dates back to September 5, 2025.

On that day, the Canadiens traded Carey Price to the Sharks along with a 2026 fifth-round pick.

Yes, it is that 2026 fifth-round pick that is now helping the Sharks add a promising forward who produces at roughly a point-per-game pace in the NCAA.

Carey Price trade tree grows again as Canadiens pick reaches Boston

The chain of trades is fascinating.

The pick went from Montreal to San Jose, then continued its journey before eventually reaching Boston.

This type of path is common around the league. A simple fifth-round pick can change hands multiple times.

But this one carries a unique significance.

It adds another branch to the famous Carey Price trade tree between the Montreal Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks.

Even a modest fifth-round pick continues to tell part of the Canadiens’ recent history.
