This is the terrifying moment a California fisherwoman was dragged into the ocean <\/a>by a powerful sneaker wave.<\/p>\n

Bae Cadotte, a 47-year-old Pacifica resident, was fishing along the beach south of Pacifica Pier Tuesday when the water struck, knocking her off her feet and pulling her about 30 feet from the shoreline.<\/p>\n

A webcam captured the frightening moment as the wave slammed into Cadotte and dragged her into the surf.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like I was tumbling in a washing machine,\u201d Cadotte told ABC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She described the wave as arriving without warning and said she immediately realized the danger she was in.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just swallowed me,\u201d she said. \u201cI knew at that point she came- I was going in. She\u2019s going to get me. No way I\u2019m getting out of this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swept away by the surging water, Cadotte chose not to fight the wave\u2019s immense force, instead surrendering her fate to a higher power.<\/p>\n

\u201cI closed my eyes, I said a prayer- God, if this is your will, I understand, but please don\u2019t let me leave my son,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Cadotte eventually resurfaced after several minutes in the water. <\/p>\n

Nearby anglers rushed to help, throwing her a rope and pulling her back onto shore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks for risking your life to save mine,\u201d she told them afterward.<\/p>\n

First responders arrived soon after and took Cadotte to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where she was treated for hypothermia and \u201cocean whiplash.\u201d<\/p>\n

She is now recovering at home.<\/p>\n

Other ocean rescues have also been reported recently. <\/p>\n

A mother and daughter were sucked into the surf at Baker Beach<\/a> in San Francisco but were rescued.<\/p>\n

Two Bay Area college students died after being swept into the ocean<\/a> in Santa Cruz.<\/p>\n

In Southern California, the danger was also highlighted after the body of 5-year-old Amada Mia Brown was recovered following a powerful rogue wave that swept her family into the ocean<\/a> in Laguna Beach.<\/p>\n

These waves are especially common along coastlines with steep, deep-water drop-offs, including parts of the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.<\/p>\n

Sneaker waves are typically large coastal waves that can surge far higher up a beach than expected. They are difficult to predict and can strike even on calm, sunny days with little to no warning.<\/p>\n

Some researchers estimate that about three out of every 10,000 waves at sea reach \u201crogue\u201d or sneaker-wave status.<\/p>\n
