{"id":370176,"date":"2026-06-22T13:56:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T13:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/370176\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T13:56:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T13:56:08","slug":"jets-were-300-feet-apart-in-boston-close-call-expert-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/370176\/","title":{"rendered":"Jets were 300 feet apart in Boston close call, expert says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BOSTON (AP) \u2014 A Delta Air Lines jet was roughly 300 feet from an American Airlines plane during a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boston-delta-flight-faa-close-call-665d0ecd5546ef87f184806487a784da\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">close call<\/a> at Boston\u2019s airport that forced the Delta aircraft to abort a weekend landing attempt, an aviation expert said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration said it was <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/boston-delta-flight-faa-close-call-665d0ecd5546ef87f184806487a784da\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">investigating<\/a> the incident between two commercial flights that happened Saturday at Boston Logan International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Todd Curtis, a former safety engineer at Boeing, estimated the distance between the two jetliners using Flightradar24, a website that tracks flights. Curtis now coproduces a podcast about flight safety issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant incident,\u201d Curtis said, adding that it was particularly concerning because it involved two professional airline crews.<\/p>\n<p>He said federal aviation officials have been concerned about such runway incursions for a while now and will scrutinize Saturday\u2019s close call.<\/p>\n<p>Near-misses and runway incursions at U.S. airports will be the subject of a hearing on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. The Senate Commerce\u202fSubcommittee\u202fon\u202fAviation, Space,\u202fand Innovation will\u202fseek ways to strengthen safety across the national airspace system.<\/p>\n<p>The Delta flight from Dallas had to execute a go-around, or aborted landing, to avoid the American plane departing from an intersecting runway, according to the FAA and flight logs.<\/p>\n<p>The crew of Delta flight 2351 coordinated with air traffic control to perform the go-around, an airline spokesperson said.
