LA QUINTA, Calif.\u00a0\u2014\u00a0\u00a0Long\u00a0Beach State went for the rare Big West men\u2019s golf four-peat, capturing the 2026 Big West Championship\u00a0crown\u00a0by\u00a0a record score of\u00a0816\u00a0besting their\u00a0previous\u00a022-under\u00a0set a season ago.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nWith a margin of victory of\u00a047\u00a0strokes,\u00a0the Beach recorded the largest gap in the 54-hole championship history\u00a0of The Big West.\u00a0The only wider gap came in 1981, when San Jose State\u00a0was\u00a0an\u00a084-stroke\u00a0victor\u00a0in a 72-hole event.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nThe\u00a0win is Long Beach State\u2019s seventh overall title and earns the\u00a0team\u00a0The Big West\u2019s automatic entry into the regional field of the 2026\u00a0NCAA Division I Men\u2019s Golf Championship. The team will learn their regional seed and destination tomorrow at 11 a.m. on The Golf Channel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nOf all Division I teams who qualified for the 2026 field via stroke play, LBSU\u2019s 48-under score ties American Conference champion Charlotte\u00a0for\u00a0lowest under par total as the current 49ers and former 49ers were both one stroke shy of the mascot moniker.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nThe Beach\u00a0were\u00a0led by individual medalist Steen Zeman, a\u00a0graduate student\u00a0from\u00a0Oxnard, Calif., who also closed the championship with the wire-to-wire victory with rounds of, 67, 66 and 72 to put together a three-day total of 11-under\u00a0205 for a one-stroke win. Zeman is\u00a0the\u00a011th\u00a0LBSU golfer to earn the individual trophy and the third in the last four seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nJust one stroke back on the leaderboard was Long Beach State duo Jack Cantlay and Jaden Huggins, finishing at 10-under 206 to narrowly miss to top line. Cantlay, a senior from Los Alamitos, Calif., moved up two places after a third-round 68 while Huggins, a\u00a0product of Murrieta, Calif., in his senior\u00a0season\u00a0had a second-round 65 to highlight the week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nFourth place went to LBSU\u2019s Alejandro de Castro Piera, a senior from Sant Esteve\u00a0Sesrovires, Spain, whose closing 66\u00a0brought him within two of Zeman at 9-under 207. Rounding out the top five, and in turn the All-Tournament Team, was 2025 individual medalist\u00a0and junior Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa, rising five spots with a final round\u00a066\u00a0to\u00a0total\u00a0a 7-under 209.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nWith\u00a0the top five\u00a0comprised\u00a0of the complete Long Beach State lineup, the Beach\u00a0have\u00a0accomplished\u00a0yet another historic feat. This marks the first time in league history that the All-Tournament team makeup has come from one member-institution since 1970.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nThe day began with a tie for second place in the team standings and Cal Poly was able to\u00a0remain in the red at 1-under 863\u00a0with UC Irvine jumping up a spot to third and the trio of UC Santa Barbara, Hawai\u2019i and UC San Diego tying for fourth at 7-over 871.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nUC Davis (+11; 875);\u00a0Cal State Fullerton\u00a0(+18; 882), UC Riverside\u00a0(+36;\u00a0902)\u00a0and CSUN\u00a0(+43;\u00a0907)\u00a0rounded out\u00a0rest\u00a0of the team standings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nIndividually, six institutions saw at least one golfer place in the top 10 with\u00a0Cal Poly and\u00a0UC Santa Barbara\u00a0seeing two players on the listings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
