From airport construction to NBA draft strategy and a summer heat wave, Sacramento residents have plenty to track this week.

Here’s a quick digest:

Sacramento International Airport is in the middle of a $1.38 billion four-year capital project called SMForward, including a 5,500-space parking garage expected to open by October and a $140 million pedestrian walkway targeted for end-of-year completion. The airport served nearly 14 million travelers in 2025, a 2% increase from the previous year. The Sacramento Kings hold the No. 7 pick in Tuesday’s NBA draft at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, weighing three scenarios: standing pat, trading up for Ja Morant or trading down with Oklahoma City. Top guard prospects available at No. 7 include Darius Acuff Jr. and Kingston Flemings, both of whom recently visited Sacramento for workouts.High pressure over the Pacific Northwest will push San Joaquin Valley temperatures near or above 100 degrees through Wednesday, while Sacramento and the Delta region stay more moderate in the low- to mid-90s thanks to the Delta breeze. A trough arriving Thursday will cool the region but bring stronger westerly winds and increased wildfire risk.

This report was produced with the assistance of a proprietary tool powered by artificial intelligence based on our own originally reported, written and published content.
