THE EVENT IS SET TO GO ON AFTER IT WAS POSTPONED LAST YEAR. KCRA 3’S MARICELA DE LA CRUZ HAS WHAT WE CAN EXPECT THIS WEEK. SACRAMENTO IS GETTING READY FOR THE X GAMES, JUST DAYS AWAY FROM THE THREE DAY EVENT. CREWS ARE PUTTING THE FINAL TOUCHES ON THE COURSES AND FEATURING A NOD TO ONE OF THE CITY’S MOST RECOGNIZABLE LANDMARKS, THE TOWER BRIDGE. OFFICIALS WHO HELPED TO BRING THE EVENT TO SACRAMENTO SAY THEY HOPE IT’S THE FIRST OF MANY. THESE EVENTS ARE ALWAYS RESUME BUILDERS. THE MORE YOU CAN POINT TO THE SUCCESS YOU’VE HAD, THE MORE EVENTS YOU ATTRACT TO YOUR CITY. WE’VE SEEN THAT OVER THE YEARS WITH EVERYTHING FROM MUSIC FESTIVALS TO FOOD CONFERENCES TO TO SPORTING EVENTS OF ALL KINDS. SO IT’S A BIG FEATHER IN SACRAMENTO’S HAT TO BE ABLE TO HOST SOMETHING OF THIS CALIBER. VISIT SACRAMENTO’S MIKE TESTA SAYS THE CITY’S SUCCESS HOSTING MAJOR EVENTS HELPED TO LAND THE X GAMES, AND THE PAYOFF COULD BE BIG. OFFICIALS EXPECT THOUSANDS OF VISITORS, A BOOST FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN ECONOMIC IMPACT. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME. IT’S GOT A PRETTY BIG FOLLOWING, SO WE EXPECT A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM THE BAY AREA, DIFFERENT PARTS OF CALIFORNIA TO COME OUT AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT. AND FROM A TOURISM STANDPOINT, YOU KNOW, EVENTS LIKE THIS ARE VALUABLE BECAUSE IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO BUILD THE FACILITIES AT CAL EXPO. SO WE’VE HAD A LOT OF FOLKS IN TOWN STAYING IN HOTELS FOR THE WEEKS LEADING UP TO THIS. WHILE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE X GAMES ARE COMING TO SACRAMENTO, THE EVENT’S REACH GOES FAR BEYOND THOSE WHO SHOW UP IN PERSON. FANS ARE EXPECTED TO TRAVEL FROM ACROSS CALIFORNIA AND BEYOND, AND THE COMPETITION WILL ALSO BE BROADCAST NATIONWIDE. THE X GAMES ON TV IS VERY EXCITING, RIGHT?
