The award-winning Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir<\/a> is always worth checking out in concert.<\/p>\n

And Bay Area fans will have the chance to do just that when the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir<\/a> \u2014 led by charismatic artistic director Terrance Kelly \u2014 performs its annual Juneteenth Celebration Concert<\/a> on June 27 at The Bankhead Theater in Livermore.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the chance to \u201cexperience the soul-stirring sound of voices united in joy, resilience and hope\u201d during \u201cthis high-energy, spirit-lifting performance (that) honors freedom and community through the transformative power of gospel music,\u201d according to information provided on the venue\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Formed in 1986, Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir<\/a> has collaborated with such well-known acts as the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, MC Hammer, Linda Ronstadt and even the Muppets rock act Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band.<\/p>\n

The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir<\/a> was the subject of the documentary film \u201cOne Voice,\u201d<\/a> which made its world premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival in 2018. It\u2019s a truly inspiring film and story, illustrating how people from different walks of life can overcome barriers and band together to make beautiful music of praise and worship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis music speaks to people in a way that nothing else does,\u201d Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir\u2019s Terrance Kelly said. \u201cNo matter what your faith, it hits you on a bone level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir also performs July 2 at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, opening up for fellow East Bay greats Tower of Power as part of the popular Big O Tires Concert Series.<\/p>\n
