The Book Den in Sacramento, operated by Friends of the Sacramento Public Library, sells donated books at low prices to help fund library programs and make books accessible to families. “This is where dreams happen, where folks can come in and find books that are affordable,” said Devon Graves of Friends of the Sacramento Public Library. Volunteers say the affordability of the books allows families to purchase more than they initially expected. “We have children that parents will tell them you can only choose one, and they get to the counter and they realize the price. They’re like, go back and get another book you wanted. We can do it. Affordability is a key piece to making sure we can sustain literacy in young minds across the region,” Graves said. Many of the books at the Book Den are priced at 50 cents or $1. Located at 8250 Belvedere Avenue, Suite E, the store also supports the “Book First” program, which provides first graders at higher-need schools with their first books.Volunteer activities by Friends of the Sacramento Public Library expand the materials and programs beyond those normally included in the Library’s operating budget. They also advocate on behalf of increased funding for the library.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel | Make KCRA a preferred news source in Google
