(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The Kern County Coroner\u2019s Office identified the <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/at-least-one-killed-in-solo-vehicle-crash-on-highway-58-sparks-fire-on-hillside-kern-county-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">driver killed in a solo-vehicle crash that resulted in an over 500-acre brush fire along Highway 58<\/a> as 28-year-old Eric Daniel Garcia of Bakersfield.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/at-least-one-killed-in-solo-vehicle-crash-on-highway-58-sparks-fire-on-hillside-kern-county-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Man killed in crash on Highway 58, sparks fire on hillside<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The California Highway Patrol said on Friday, June 19, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m., officers were called to westbound Highway 58, east of General Beale Road, for a report of a crash involving a vehicle that had gone down an embankment.<\/p>\n<p>CHP said a preliminary investigation found that Garcia  was driving a 2013 Hyundai Azera westbound on Highway 58, east of General Beale Road, at a speed in excess of the posted speed limit.<\/p>\n<p>According to CHP, for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a drainage ditch along the right shoulder. The Hyundai continued out of control, overturned while descending the embankment, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the crash, Garcia died.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PHOTO: AlertCalifornia\" class=\"ImageEmbed_image__qZBo_\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/15a2045d-4760-4d35-913a-1bbe6f0a5327-image3.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The crash also resulted in a brush fire. According to CalFire, the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fire.ca.gov\/incidents\/2026\/6\/19\/star-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Star Fire<\/a> burned 577 acres and is 100% contained.<\/p>\n<p>CHP said it is unknown whether alcohol and\/or drugs were factors in this crash.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call CHP Bakersfield at (661) 396-6600.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
