(FOX26) \u2014 A hazardous materials response at a Fresno apartment complex prompted evacuations and a major street closure Thursday morning after residents reported getting sick and investigators considered the possibility of fentanyl exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Fresno Fire Department crews responded at about 10:30 a.m. to the Renaissance at Alta Monte, a multifamily complex, after reports that people were coughing and throwing up at one of the units.<\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/local\/two-arrested-after-fentanyl-meth-seized-from-visalia-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Two arrested after fentanyl, meth found in Visalia home<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When firefighters arrived, two people on the first floor complained of not feeling well.<\/p>\n<p>Fire officials said an irritant appeared to be causing the symptoms, and during the investigation, there was a possible fentanyl problem connected to the incident. <\/p>\n<p>The building was evacuated, and some residents were sheltered in place.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement, EMS, and Environmental Health were involved at the scene. <\/p>\n<p>Fire crews searched around the first floor but did not find a source, and the investigation was being transferred to Fresno police and the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation into possible use and manufacture of fentanyl.<\/p>\n<p>One person was treated at the scene and released. <\/p>\n<p>A second person was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for further treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Comment with Bubbles<\/p>\n<p>JOIN THE CONVERSATION (1)<\/p>\n<p>Blackstone Avenue was blocked off from Illinois Avenue to Belmont Avenue during the response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
