{"id":374934,"date":"2026-06-25T21:41:45","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T21:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/374934\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T21:41:45","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T21:41:45","slug":"sacramento-deputies-see-technological-advancements-with-robotic-k9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/374934\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento deputies see technological advancements with robotic K9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(FOX40.COM) \u2014\u00a0 Technological advancements within the Sacramento County Sheriff\u2019s Office continue as deputies utilized a new robotic K9 platform during a barricade situation.<\/p>\n<p>That new technology came in handy recently when 30-year-old Austin Carter, who is a registered sex offender and parolee-at-large, was armed and had <a href=\"https:\/\/fox40.com\/news\/local-news\/sacramento\/man-in-custody-following-standoff-in-sacramento\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">barricaded himself inside a home<\/a> on June 18, officials said. He consumed all his drugs once he realized that SWAT was on scene, according to deputies.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to resolve the situation, SCSO deployed Buster, the new robotic K9 platform. Deputies received no response from Carter when they attempted to make contact, prompting the deployment of a drone.<\/p>\n<p>Carter was seen unconscious in the corner of a garage, with a knife in one hand. <a href=\"https:\/\/fox40.com\/news\/local-news\/sacramento-county\/deputies-disarm-suspect-with-drone-magnet\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SCSO attached a magnet to the drone and successfully disarmed him<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The robotic K9 was then able to remove obstacles that were preventing deputies from accessing the garage.<\/p>\n<p>Carter woke up and deputies used the Rook armored rescue vehicle to \u201cprovide ballistic protection\u201d while approaching the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>SCSO said Carter was non-compliant, resulting in the deployment of  Sheriff\u2019s K9 Beau, who successfully apprehended him. <\/p>\n<p>Carter was taken to the hospital before being booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple charges.
