(KBAK\/KBFX)  \u2014 Summer is officially here and as the weather heats up more families find themselves enjoying time in the pool.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important for families to take every precaution they can to keep young children safe near water.<\/p>\n<p>Kern County Public Health is highlighting their Water Watchers program which designates an adult to keep an eye on the water at all times and avoid any distractions.<\/p>\n<p>Program Manager Michelle Corson joined ARC Bakersfield to share more details.<\/p>\n<p>Corson says drowning remains the number one cause of death for children ages one to four.<\/p>\n<p>She says more precautions families can take include making sure weak swimmers wear a life jacket, fencing in pools, and learning CPR.<\/p>\n<p>More information about the Water Watchers program can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kernpublichealth.com\/healthy-community\/infants-children\/childhood-illness-and-injury-prevention-program\/water-watchers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">kernpublichealth.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
