Thursday evening, a report from insider Frank Seravalli tells us that the Anaheim Ducks & New York Rangers are engaged in ‘advanced discussions’ on a trade for the embattled pivot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sources say #FlyTogether<\/a> and #NYR<\/a> have engaged in advanced discussions on a trade for Mason McTavish.<\/p>\n

To be clear, the trade is NOT done. But this is a distinct possibility worth watching.<\/p>\n

Seravalli makes clear that a deal is not done at this point, but is a “distinct possibility”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Further reports this evening indicate that another team is involved in these advanced talks as well, and LeBrun has identified it as the St. Louis Blues.<\/p>\n

My understanding is that the Ducks were weighing offers from two teams on McTavish in the last few hours, one of them being the Rangers as @frank_seravalli<\/a> says here \u2935\ufe0f https:\/\/t.co\/pOFTO9DJer<\/a><\/p>\n

McTavish had a disappointing season in Anaheim after a contentious offseason last year trying to negotiate a contract as an RFA. In a middling 17-goal, 41-point season, he faced a number of healthy scratches, including during the playoffs. But with a high draft pedigree (3rd overall in 2021), and still only 23 years old, many teams are salivating to get their hands on the potential second-line center.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He is also signed long-term, on a six-year deal with a reasonable $7 million AAV (assuming he can fulfill his potential).\u00a0<\/p>\n
