A woman found dead in the water near a popular beach in San Diego last week has been identified as a star volleyball player and avid surfer. <\/p>\n
Summer Nash, 34, was seen floating in the water near Ocean Beach Pier on June 18 before lifeguards recovered her body and pronounced her dead at the scene, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The manner of her death remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

A person identifying themselves as Nash\u2019s mother described her as a surfer who frequented hot spots around San Diego.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was beautiful, deeply empathetic, and an accomplished athlete,\u201d the person, Avery, commented in a post from the local publication OB Rag<\/a>. \u201cOver the past couple of years, she\u2019s spent much of her time surfing beaches from Tourmaline to Mission. The loss is insurmountable.\u201d<\/p>\n Avery also described Nash<\/a> as a \u201cbrilliant, unstoppable force who \u201cloved her sisters, the wild outdoors, and very tiny things.\u201d<\/p>\n Nash played volleyball at San Diego State<\/a> and Florida International universities before transitioning into coaching roles for powerhouses programs at Florida State and Stanford universities..<\/p>\n She appeared to have last coached for Stanford during the 2022-2023 season.<\/p>\n Nash\u2019s head coach at SDSU, Deitre Collins, mourned her in an Instagram post<\/a>, noting the player started many games for the Aztecs and led the team in kills for her 2013 senior season.<\/a><\/p>\n Nash\u2019s body was found floating in the water near Ocean Beach Pier. mdurson \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n Nash appeared to have last coached for Stanford during the 2022-2023 season. Stanford<\/p>\n \u201cHeartbroken to learn of the passing of my former player, Summer Nash,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cSummer was an exceptional talent on the volleyball court, but what I\u2019ll remember most is the person she was. She had a beautiful spirit, a kind heart, and a presence that made those around her better. San Diego State University Athletics<\/p>\n He called her a \u201cwonderful coach\u201d for the club volleyball organization<\/a> and \u201cone of the nicest people I\u2019ve ever met in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n Olson described Nash as a very physical player who could \u201chit the snot out of the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPeople didn\u2019t serve her because they were scared of her physicality and her ability to crush the ball,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The manner of Nash\u2019s death remains under investigation.
