Hit the brakes on whatever you\u2019re doing because CicLAvia<\/a>\u00a0is coming to South L.A. on Sunday and there\u2019s a lot to know about the 66th L.A. Open Streets event hosted by L.A. Metro.<\/p>\n

Around 3.6 miles between Leimert Park and Expo Park will become a car-free zone for people to walk, jog, bike and skate, according to CicLAvia\u2019s website. The route will also include restricted parking and limited vehicle access.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what to know ahead of the event.<\/p>\n

When is the event?<\/p>\n

CicLAvia takes place between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, stretching for 3.6 miles between Leimert Park and Expo Park.<\/p>\n

How can I join the fun?<\/p>\n

The CicLAvia route will include multiple hubs, or stops where there will be \u201csafe, fun and family-oriented activities,\u201d according to the event\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The following locations<\/a> will serve as hubs:<\/p>\n

Leimert Park Hub:\u00a04330 Crenshaw Blvd.King Estates Hub:\u00a01745 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.Expo Park Hub:\u00a0874 W. MLK Blvd.\u00a0MLK Hub:\u00a0632 E. MLK Blvd.Historic South Central Hub:\u00a01922 S. Central Ave.<\/p>\n

Participants can enjoy food and activities at each of these locations. Restrooms, first aid and free water will also be available.<\/p>\n

Meet LAist at CicLAvia<\/p>\n

LAist staff will be at the Leimert Park hub in Leimert Park from 9 a.m. to 4.m. with special LAist swag. More information can be found here<\/a>. See you there!<\/p>\n

Which streets will be closed and when?<\/p>\n

The following streets will be closed between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.<\/a> on Sunday:<\/p>\n

Crenshaw Boulevard, from West Vernon Avenue to West MLK BoulevardWest MLK Boulevard, from Crenshaw Boulevard to South Figueroa<\/p>\n

Some streets may close as early as 6 a.m.<\/p>\n

Can vehicles cross the route at selected major intersections?<\/p>\n

Yes, cars can cross the CicLAvia route at the following intersections:<\/p>\n

Stocker Street and Crenshaw BoulevardMLK Boulevard and Arlington Avenue\u00a0MLK Boulevard and Western Avenue\u00a0MLK Boulevard and Normandie Avenue\u00a0MLK Boulevard and Vermont Avenue<\/p>\n

What are the parking restrictions?<\/p>\n

No parking or vehicles will be allowed on the route from 1 a.m. to about 6 p.m.<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

All driveways on the route will be blocked off from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., those who need to use their vehicles must park elsewhere before 7 a.m.<\/p>\n

Are there open lots near the route?<\/p>\n

Yes, all lots are pay lots<\/a>, and you can find them through Parkme.com<\/a> and Parkopedia.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Can I get reimbursed for any parking expenses?<\/p>\n

CicLAvia can reimburse residents and business employees who regularly park on the route up to $20 per vehicle for any parking costs incurred from 8 p.m. on Saturday through 6 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Just email a copy of your parking receipt and proof of residence or employment to info@ciclavia.org<\/a>, with the subject line: \u201cParking Reimbursement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Can I ride my e-bike? Are there any other types of vehicle restrictions?<\/p>\n

CicLAvia\u2019s general rule<\/a> is that only people-powered vehicles are allowed, with exceptions for persons with mobility restrictions.<\/p>\n

There are three classes of e-bikes allowed during CicLAvia:<\/p>\n

Class 1: These are common, pedal-assist e-bikes.Class 2:\u00a0These are e-bikes that have throttles, and are allowed specifically if the power is switched off and the user is pedaling.Class 3:\u00a0These are faster e-bikes, whether they have throttles or not, and are allowed if the power is switched off and the user is pedaling.<\/p>\n

Basically: \u201cIf you\u2019re primarily pedaling, and keeping with the flow of traffic, you\u2019re fine,\u201d according to organizers. Find out more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
