President Trump on Tuesday threatened legal action over mail-in ballots cast in California, while also slamming the state\u2019s redistricting measure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Unconstitutional Redistricting Vote in California is a GIANT SCAM in that the entire process, in particular the Voting itself, is RIGGED,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social<\/a>. \u201cAll \u2018Mail-In\u2019 Ballots, where the Republicans in that State are \u2018Shut Out,\u2019 is under very serious legal and criminal review. STAY TUNED!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Hill has reached out to the White House for clarification. <\/p>\n

Golden State voters are expected to cast their ballots on Tuesday in consideration of Proposition 50<\/a>, the state\u2019s redistricting measure. If the measure wins, which recent polling suggestion suggests is likely, the state will redraw its congressional maps to give Democrats \u2014 already with a supermajority in the state \u2014 potentially a five-seat advantage in the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n

If Proposition 50 loses, the state\u2019s congressional districts will not be redrawn until the 2030 census.<\/p>\n

Trump has been a frequent critic of mail-in voting and has repeated unproven claims of voter fraud<\/a> as being associated with voters casting their ballots by mail. Trump claimed his loss in 2020 was because of expanded mail-in voting as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

After returning to the White House, Trump signed an executive order<\/a> in March requiring, among other things, Attorney General Pam Bondi to go after states that count absentee or mail-in ballots received after Election Day. Most states count mail-in or absentee ballots as long as they are postmarked by Election Day. Should states not comply, they could see their federal funding be withdrawn.<\/p>\n

In August, Trump threatened to issue an executive order to eliminate mail-in voting<\/a> and \u201cseriously controversial\u201d voting machines, he said in a Truth Social post.<\/a><\/p>\n

The following month, Trump suggested that his decision to move Space Command\u2019s headquarters<\/a> from Colorado Springs, Colo., to Huntsville, Ala., had to do with the state\u2019s mail-in voting laws.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem I have with Colorado, one of the big problems, they do mail-in voting. They do all mail-in voting. So they have automatically crooked elections,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd we can\u2019t have that. When a state is for mail-in voting that means they want dishonest elections, because that\u2019s what that means.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump claimed Colorado has \u201ca very corrupt voting system.\u201d<\/p>\n
