Voters in California will decide whether to approve a proposition to redraw the state’s congressional map.<\/p>\n
The proposal, which could erase as many as five Republican districts, is aimed at countering an unprecedented state-by-state\u00a0redistricting battle, which started when\u00a0Texas Republicans heeded\u00a0President Donald Trump\u2019s demand that they redraw their boundaries to help the GOP retain control of the House in the midterms. <\/p>\n
California\u2019s Proposition 50<\/a> is a yes-or-no question that asks voters whether they authorize\u00a0temporary changes to congressional district maps<\/a>\u00a0already approved by state lawmakers. Those new districts would be in place for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections.
