Jamie Yetter, her fianc\u00e9 Chris Bury and her teenage daughter were staying at the hotel and relaxing by the pool when they heard screams coming from the beach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought we saw a guy stuck in a rip current, so Chris took off down to the water, and I ran right after him,\u201d Yetter said.<\/p>\n

Bury jumped into a kayak without paddles in a desperate attempt to reach the man.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were no oars. There was really nothing at the beach at all to help. We were just scrambling, trying to do what we could,\u201d Bury said.<\/p>\n

Despite the Orange County family\u2019s efforts, they were unable to save the victim.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey didn\u2019t tell anyone it was dangerous,\u201d Yetter told Surfer.com.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThey didn\u2019t tell us we shouldn\u2019t go swimming. Even the next morning, I went down to the ocean. I assumed the beach would be closed. The beach wasn\u2019t closed. There were no no-swimming signs,\u201d Yetter added.<\/p>\n
