{"id":378889,"date":"2026-06-29T03:28:29","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T03:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/378889\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T03:28:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T03:28:29","slug":"oc-couple-tries-to-save-man-killed-by-crocodile-in-puerto-vallarta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/378889\/","title":{"rendered":"OC couple tries to save man killed by crocodile in Puerto Vallarta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 28-year-old man was killed in a crocodile attack at a popular beach in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/30\/world-news\/mexican-serial-killer-may-be-responsible-for-murders-of-women-politician-says\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resort town of Puerto Vallarta<\/a> on Friday evening as a vacationing San Clemente family rushed to help, witnesses and authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>The attack occurred around 6:30 p.m. at Marina Vallarta Beach near the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/25\/world-news\/serial-killer-fears-as-three-women-found-dead-in-puerto-vallerta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jalisco state police<\/a> identified the victim only as a 28-year-old man from Mexico who was in the resort town for work. <\/p>\n<p>His body was recovered around 12 hours later early Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The crocodile attack occurred at a popular beach in the resort town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Marriott<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Yetter, her fianc\u00e9 Chris Bury, and her teenage daughter were staying at the hotel and relaxing by the pool when they heard screams from the beach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought we saw a guy stuck in a rip current, so Chris took off down to the water, and I ran right after him,\u201d Yetter told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/san-clemente-couple-witnesses-puerto-vallarta-crocodile-attack\/3910159\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NBC Los Angeles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Yetter, her fianc\u00e9 Chris Bury, and her daughter were staying at the hotel when they heard screams from the beach. NBC<\/p>\n<p>Bury jumped into a paddle-less kayak in a desperate bid to reach the man.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were no oars. There was really nothing at the beach at all to help. We were just scrambling, trying to do what we could,\u201d Bury said. \u201cI was on the kayak right when he got pulled under.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Orange County family\u2019s heroic efforts were not enough to save the victim.<\/p>\n<p>By Saturday morning, NBC reports that beachgoers were once again swimming in the same area with their families. NBC<\/p>\n<p>Yetter noted that they initially mistook the crocodile image for an iguana on the beach warning signage. NBC<\/p>\n<p>Yetter noted that signage near the beach warns of jellyfish, stingrays and crocodiles in the water, but the family said they initially mistook the crocodile image for an iguana.<\/p>\n<p>By Saturday morning, NBC reports that beachgoers were once again swimming in the same area with their families.<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/22\/2-american-tourists-mauled-by-crocodile-in-mexico\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">near the site of a 2022 crocodile attack<\/a> that injured
