(FOX26) \u2014 Five people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint over the weekend in Fresno.<\/p>\n<p>The checkpoint was on Saturday at Cedar and Bullard Avenues from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. <\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/local\/dui-stop-uncovers-nitrous-oxide-tanks-suspected-for-inhalation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DUI stop uncovers nitrous oxide tanks suspected for inhalation and illegal fireworks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police contacted 292 vehicles during the operation. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to the DUI arrests, 18 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license.<\/p>\n<p>Checkpoint locations are selected based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. <\/p>\n<p>The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roads.<\/p>\n<p>The next DUI enforcement operation will be a DUI checkpoint scheduled for Saturday, July 4th.<\/p>\n<p>Comment with Bubbles<\/p>\n<p>BE THE FIRST TO COMMENT<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the June 27 checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
