WOTA Has Record Breaking Day for Rides\"\"<\/p>\n

Highland Township, MI \u2013 Transit usage is rising in Western Oakland County, and WOTA drivers are rising to the challenge.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday May 20, Western Oakland Transportation Authority (WOTA) celebrated a record of 519 rides that day.\u00a0 That record did not last long however, as on June 3rd they topped it with 530 rides!<\/p>\n

WOTA provides door to door service for riders in Keego Harbor, Lake Angelus, Orchard Lake, Sylvan Lake, Walled Lake, Groveland Township, Highland Township, Holly Township, Rose Township, Waterford Township, White Lake Township, and the Village of Holly.\u00a0 Some destinations can be outside of those boundaries.\u00a0 Users schedule rides in advance, and the staff works hard to coordinate drivers and get people safely where they need to be.<\/p>\n

There are 90 drivers on staff, and for that record breaking day, 52 of them were on the road. Rides began at 6am, and the last drivers ended their busy day after 9pm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe drivers and dispatchers at WOTA are exceptional. Their care and concern for our riders is no mistake. These men and women are wired to be helpers. It\u2019s an honor to work alongside them every day,\u201d said WOTA Deputy Director Amy Grzymkowski.<\/p>\n

Riders are adults of all ages.\u00a0 Some use WOTA to get to work.\u00a0 Others use it to shop or run errands, or to make it to medical appointments.\u00a0 People can use transit to visit friends, go to the gym or the park, enjoy a night out without worrying about a safe way home, or even to get groceries.\u00a0 Some use WOTA for regular rides, while others are glad that it\u2019s an option when their car is in the shop, or when an injury prevents them from driving.\u00a0 Whatever the reason for the ride, WOTA is there to help.<\/p>\n

Plus veterans get to ride for free.<\/p>\n

Chris Meyers has been a driver for WOTA for two years.\u00a0 \u201cI love working at WOTA. I enjoy the passengers and getting to know them. It\u2019s an honor to when I get to help our veterans. It\u2019s a rewarding job!\u201d\u00a0 Myers said.<\/p>\n

In May, WOTA averaged 456 rides per day on weekdays.\u00a0 They do operate seven days a week.\u00a0 Riders in the communities mentioned above can register online, or call the office to request a paper registration.\u00a0 They\u2019re often hiring as well, with open positions listed on their website.<\/p>\n
