BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 A man who is believed to have been driving while intoxicated is in \u201ccritical but stable condition\u201d after a crash Saturday afternoon, which also caused a power outage in the area, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.<\/p>\n
At around 3:32 p.m. June 27, Bakersfield police officers responded after hearing a crash in the 2300 block of Ashe Road.<\/p>\n
Watch \u2018After Sunrise\u2019 on KGET+; Click to learn how to get KGET+ on your smart TV devices <\/a><\/p>\n At the scene, officers found a gray Chevy Camaro, which had crashed into a power pole, fire hydrant and block wall, according to police.<\/p>\n The people in the vehicle, two men, reportedly exited and declined medical aid.<\/p>\n According to officials, the crash led to a power outage in the surrounding area and a water main had to be shut down due to the ruptured fire hydrant. About 1,700 people were impacted by the power outage, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Company.<\/p>\n Preliminary investigation shows the driver was driving south on Ashe Road when he struck the center median and lost control of the vehicle, according to BPD.<\/p>\n The driver was taken to a hospital for medical clearance but turned out to have suffered major injuries, according to police. He is reportedly in critical but stable condition.<\/p>\n
