Detroit Pistons<\/a> center Jalen Duren<\/a>, one of the top restricted free agents this summer, has a pair of meetings with outside teams scheduled for Tuesday, when free agency officially begins.<\/p>\n

One of the teams is the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN. The Lakers’ front office has received feedback from franchise star Luka Doncic<\/a> about his desire to pair with an “A-list center,” a league source told ESPN, and Duren would fit the bill.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound big man is coming off his first All-Star appearance and an All-NBA third-team nod, averaging 19.5 points on 65% shooting with 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists for a Pistons team that won 60 games and earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n

Duren also plans to meet with the Sacramento Kings<\/a>, a league source told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.<\/p>\n

The Lakers have one center on their roster for next season, after Deandre Ayton<\/a> exercised the $8.1 million option on his contract.<\/p>\n

L.A. has the requisite cap space — $52 million, according to ESPN NBA front office insider Bobby Marks — to make an offer to the 22-year-old Duren; however, if the Lakers sign Duren to an offer sheet during the salary cap moratorium, Detroit would have until 11:59 p.m. ET on July 7 to match. The Lakers would run the risk of missing out on their key free agents if Detroit matches the offer sheet.<\/p>\n

The Lakers still have several of their own free agents to consider, including LeBron James<\/a>, Rui Hachimura<\/a>, Jaxson Hayes<\/a> and Luke Kennard<\/a>. Sources told ESPN last week that Los Angeles reached an agreement on a four-year, $185 million contract extension with Austin Reaves<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Kings would need to acquire Duren, who has played his entire career in Detroit, through a sign-and-trade agreement, the league source told Spears, and the deal would have to include three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis<\/a>, who still has two years and $94 million remaining on his current contract.<\/p>\n

Thus far, the Pistons are uninterested in putting Duren in any sign-and-trade offer, team sources told ESPN.<\/p>\n

The Athletic previously reported Duren’s plans for outside meetings, stemming from his disappointment in the direction of the initial negotiations with the Pistons.<\/p>\n

Duren’s production dipped in the playoffs, during which he averaged 10.2 points on 51.4% shooting and 8.5 rebounds before Detroit was upset by the No. 4-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> in the second round.<\/p>\n
