Seniors living in central Fresno have a new place to find hot meals and congregate.<\/p>\n

The city of Fresno cut the ribbon on the south wing of the Paul \u201cCap\u201d Caprioglio Community Center on June 26. The 3,000-square-foot space features a kitchen, recreation room and activity space, part of a $1.6 million renovation.<\/p>\n

The building is located at 5191 N. 6th Street, blocks away from the Fresno State campus and Valley Children\u2019s Stadium.<\/p>\n

Caprioglio, a retired attorney and former city councilmember, 2008-09 and 2013-21, pushed for the center during his time at City Hall. The center, opened in 2023, also includes youth spaces.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so honored, I\u2019m so humbled. It\u2019s a dream come true,\u201d Caprioglio said during a ceremony for the newly renovated building.<\/p>\n

Senior hot meal service will start next month.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a senior, and I like my meals hot. Can we please get this going, please? And, of course, it came to fruition,\u201d Caprioglio said.<\/p>\n

The building includes new office space, and a social hall for programs and activities. Upgrades also the HVAC system and ADA accessibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really took an important step toward creating a multi-generational space where both youth and seniors could learn, connect, stay active, and really try to build a sense of community,\u201d Mayor Jerry Dyer said.<\/p>\n
