Ambitious plans for a high-rise affordable housing complex in Downtown Long Beach <\/a>have been discarded in favor of the preservation of existing buildings, according to recent filing with the City of Long Beach.<\/p>\n

Back in 2023, developer Holos Communities<\/a> was exploring the construction of interconnected 15-story buildings on a site at 521 E. 4th Street. The proposal, named “Denali” after the tallest mountain on the North American continent, would have included 175 homes.<\/p>\n

Three years later, Holos is setting its sights a bit closer to street level. In lieu of high-rise ambitions, the North Hollywood-based firm now proposes the adaptive reuse of two existing buildings – including a neighboring structure across the street at 530 E. 4th Street. Plans call for 30 studio apartments, reserved as permanent supportive housing, at 521 E. 4th Street, and 14 supportive housing units at 530 E. 4th Street.<\/p>\n

A representative for Holos Communities confirmed via e-mail that the developer will not be moving forward with the proposed tower.<\/p>\n

Despite withdrawing from plans to build tall in Long Beach, Holos Communities has other large-scale developments in the pipeline elsewhere. Holos recently proposed a 12-story housing complex near the Vermont\/Beverly subway station<\/a> in the City of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
