OAKLAND TOWNSHIP \u2014 A 77-year-old woman from Northville was critically injured after her vehicle struck a tree in Oakland Township June 20.<\/p>\n
The Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office, along with the Oakland Township Fire Department, responded to the crash on east Gunn Road, east of Cook Court, at around 4:57 p.m. June 20.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the woman, who was driving a 2016 Volvo XC70, was traveling eastbound on east Gunn Road approaching a curve when she attempted to pass other vehicles at \u201ca high rate of speed.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs she maneuvered around traffic, she swerved to avoid a bicyclist who was traveling westbound on East Gunn Road,\u201d the Sheriff\u2019s Office said in a news release. \u201cThe vehicle subsequently lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree.\u201d<\/p>\n
The woman, who was trapped inside the Volvo after the crash, had to be extricated by emergency responders, according to officials. She was transported to Henry Ford Rochester Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A 12-year-old girl from Bruce Township who was also riding in the vehicle was not injured.<\/p>\n
Investigators said speed is believed to be a \u201ccontributing factor\u201d in the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
