Xxavian Hernandez, 8, Killed in Crash on California Avenue at Bakersfield Food Truck Lot<\/p>\n
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2025) \u2014 Xxavian Hernandez, 8, was killed and his father was hospitalized in a crash Monday at a food truck lot on California Avenue involving a suspected DUI driver with two prior DUI convictions. <\/p>\n
The crash occurred on Nov. 3rd around 12:09 p.m. in the 1400 block of East California Avenue, when a black Nissan pickup traveling westbound suddenly veered off the roadway, according to the Bakersfield Police Department. The truck broke through a fence and into a parking lot where food vendors were set up, striking the father and son.<\/p>\n
Both victims were rushed to a hospital, where Xxavian later died from his injuries early Tuesday morning. His father remains hospitalized with moderate injuries.<\/p>\n
Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Andres Serna, who they said was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Serna suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital before being taken into custody. Because of his two prior DUI convictions, police said Serna now faces murder and DUI-related charges and will be booked into the Lerdo Justice Facility after his release.<\/p>\n
