OAKLAND COUTNY, Mich. – A homeless man has been charged after allegedly making “profane death threats” against a mosque, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office announced.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old homeless man, Andrew Lord, faces the following charges:<\/p>\n
False Threat of Terrorism Using a Computer to Commit a Crime<\/p>\n
If found guilty, he could spend up to 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n

On June 28, the defendant allegedly left voicemails with the American Islamic Community \u2013 Madison Heights mosque containing profane death threats. The defendant is also a suspect in another investigation in Troy involving alcohol-fueled threats against a restaurant worker, according to police.<\/p>\n
\u201cMembers of our Islamic community have an absolute right to worship without fearing for their safety,\u201d said Prosecutor Karen McDonald. \u201cEven where hate crimes are the result of a personal crisis or substance abuse, they reflect a disturbing cultural trend of religious intolerance that is not acceptable.
