SAN FRANCISCO – The future of Macy\u2019s flagship store in San Francisco\u2019s Union Square<\/a> is becoming clearer, more than a year after the retailer announced it was leaving.<\/p>\n Macy\u2019s partners with TMG <\/p>\n What we know:<\/p>\n Macy\u2019s said it has entered an agreement with real estate development firm TMG to determine the path forward and how to revitalize the location, as first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.<\/a><\/p>\n The partnership comes after Macy\u2019s announced in 2024 that it planned to close the Union Square<\/a> location along with 149 other stores nationwide, citing shifts in the retail landscape.<\/p>\n \n Featured\n <\/p>\n Southland Mall in Hayward gets new owners<\/a> <\/p>\n The Southland Mall in Hayward has been sold for $70 million in cash to Namdar Realty Group, a New York\u2013based company known for purchasing struggling retail centers.<\/p>\n Exploring new uses for the landmark property <\/p>\n What’s next:<\/p>\n Under the new agreement, TMG will work with Macy\u2019s to identify potential new uses for the more than 600,000-square-foot property.<\/p>\n City leaders called the agreement an encouraging step for the future of downtown San Francisco.<\/p>\n “Its a good day for our city. We are creating the conditions for success downtown, and this is a great example of what is working,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie.<\/p>\n Plans for redevelopment are still in the early stages, and a closing date has not been set.
