{"id":388665,"date":"2026-07-07T01:23:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T01:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/388665\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T01:23:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T01:23:07","slug":"hit-and-run-driver-kills-bicyclist-in-west-long-beach-police-say-long-beach-post-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/388665\/","title":{"rendered":"Hit-and-run driver kills bicyclist in West Long Beach, police say \u2022 Long Beach Post News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hit-and-run driver killed a bicyclist early this morning in West Long Beach, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened at about 2:38 a.m. near the intersection of West Cowles Street and Santa Fe Avenue, according to Long Beach police.<\/p>\n<p>They said a man was riding a bicycle westbound on Cowles Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that turned from southbound Santa Fe Avenue onto eastbound Cowles Street, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The driver fled the scene before officers arrived. <\/p>\n<p>The victim, whose name and age were withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the city\u2019s 26th traffic death of the year, matching the pace of last year, when the city recorded its <a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/news\/long-beach-traffic-deaths-most-decade-vision-zero\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">highest death toll<\/a> on the roads in more than a decade.
