Habitat for Humanity<\/a> of Greater Los Angeles is eyeing a vacant lot in South Gate for redevelopment into affordable, for sale-housing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The empty property at 9019 Long Beach Boulevard is poised for construction of 14 three-story townhomes, Urbanize Los Angeles reported<\/a>. The homes would range between 1,000 and 1,372 square feet, and each would have its own two-car garage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The City of South Gate<\/a> will have to approve an environmental clearance and modifications to certain zoning rules to allow reductions to setbacks and taller perimeter fences. Once approved, the homes will be designated for sale to qualifying low-income buyers, according to a study cited by Urbanize. If the City of South Gate gives Habitat for Humanity the go-ahead, construction could begin as early as next summer and wrap up by April 2029.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles is pursuing a mix of for-sale housing projects in the region, especially in southern cities in Los Angeles County like South Gate and Long Beach<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In Long Beach, Habitat is pursuing its Erin Grove development project, which calls for 20 low-income townhomes and 16 market-rate townhomes in three-story buildings. The structures would come in two- and three-bedroom layouts ranging in size from 1,215 to 1,550 square feet. At 1510 Palmer Court in Long Beach, Habitat is also developing eight townhouses. Another Long Beach development from Habitat at 5571 Orange Avenue is slated for completion this year. That project also calls for eight townhouses with three- and four-bedroom floor plans between 1,250 and 1,380 square feet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the Los Angeles region, Habitat for Humanity is moving forward with other planned developments. Brookfield<\/a> Residential\u2019s 277-unit Magnolia development in Arcadia includes 14 affordable homes which Habitat is offering underwriting services for. In Santa Fe Springs, Habitat is expected to debut an 18-townhouse project later this year, according to its website<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Los Angeles remains a national leader in building affordable housing, ranking among the top 10 metros<\/a> building income-restricted residences between 2020 and 2024, according to RentCafe.\u00a0<\/p>\n
