SAN JOSE \u2013 Two halls at San Jose State University were evacuated and a nearby street was closed Monday evening while police worked to take domestic violence suspect into custody.<\/p>\n
Officers went to an apartment in the 200 block of South Fourth Street around 6:25 p.m. to investigate a family disturbance, according to a spokesperson for the San Jose Police Department. They arrived to find a person who confirmed she had been assaulted.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said police identified the suspect and determined he had several outstanding warrants.<\/p>\n
The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to exit, according to the spokesperson. Special operations units, including negotiators, were called to the scene.<\/p>\n
Officers took the suspect into custody shortly after 8:30 p.m., the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
During the incident, South Fourth Street was closed from East San Fernando Street to San Carlos Street. Washington Square Hall and Yoshihiro Uchida Hall at SJSU were also evacuated.<\/p>\n
