Voters in California were asked to decide whether to approve a proposition to redraw the state’s congressional map.<\/p>\n
The proposal, which could erase as many as five Republican districts, is aimed at countering an unprecedented state-by-state\u00a0redistricting battle, which started when\u00a0Texas Republicans heeded\u00a0President Donald Trump\u2019s demand that they redraw their boundaries to help the GOP retain control of the House in the midterms.<\/p>\n
California\u2019s\u00a0Proposition 50<\/a>\u00a0is a yes-or-no question that asks voters whether they authorize\u00a0temporary changes to congressional district maps<\/a>\u00a0already approved by state lawmakers. Those new districts would be in place for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections. After the 2030 U.S. Census, California’s independent redistricting commission would resume drawing the maps.<\/p>\n The election results are here after the polls close at 8 p.m.: <\/p>\n Many Californians could see their representative change based on the new congressional district maps approved by lawmakers in August. Among those is San Diego’s 48th district, a largely rural, conservative region represented by Republican Rep.
