Sacramento State’s men’s basketball team is going to have a disproportionate number of eyes on it this season.<\/p>\n

The Hornets are coached by former NBA star Mike Bibby, and they feature big names like Mikey Williams and Shaqir O’Neal, with Shaquille O’Neal as their general manager.<\/p>\n

Sac State opened the season on Tuesday night, and while the night ended in a win, it was far from perfect.<\/p>\n

The Hornets found themselves in a close game before pulling away late to beat Division II Dominican University of California, 103-79.<\/p>\n

Williams, the long-time social media star and former top recruit, had an inefficient night at just 3-for-11 from the floor. He finished with 10 points and did dish out six assists.<\/p>\n

Shaqir O’Neal (Shaq’s son) also started and played 20 minutes but managed just four points and one rebound in that time.<\/p>\n

The star of the night was guard Prophet Johnson, a transfer from Fairfield. He put up 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds.<\/p>\n

And off the bench, Utah transfer Jayden Teat poured in 21 points of his own.<\/p>\n

Sacramento State is back home on Friday to take on another non-D1 opponent in Jessup.<\/p>\n

Right now, the Hornets are the No. 268 ranked team in the country by the KenPom analytics website.<\/p>\n
